Hospice is a philosophy and a concept, not a specific place of care. Hospice is for any person who has a terminal illness, or when curative treatment is no longer effective.

  • Hospice offers palliative and comfort care to patients by using the most current methods of pain and symptom management.
  • Hospice is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hospice care is available through Medicare, most private insurance plans, and private payment.


Anyone can refer a patient to a hospice program. To be admitted, a patient must:

  • Agree to treatment aimed at comfort rather than cure.
  • Have an incurable illness resulting in a limited life expectancy, as certified by a physician.


Hospice provides care to all patients with any end-stage diagnosis. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Metastatic Malignancies
  • Heart Disease
  • Kidney Disease
  • Liver Disease
  • Lung Disease
  • Stroke and/or Coma
  • AIDS
  • Neurological Disease (Alzheimer's, Dementia, etc.)
  • Lou Gehrig's Disease
  • ALS
  • Failure of the multiple organ systems
  • Failure to thrive
  • Senescence (The physical and mental conditions associated with advancing age.)


Communicare Hospice, provides all of the necessary medial and support services to manage the patient's life-limiting illness such as including:

  • Caregiver education
  • Pain and symptom management
  • Nursing care
  • Social and emotional support
  • Spiritual support
  • Respite care
  • Grief support
  • Physical/speech and occupational therapy
  • Dietary counseling
  • Medication, equipment and supplies necessary for management of terminal illness.
